AGPAL has advised practices to expect a transition period of around twelve months after the 6th edition is published, during which a practice may choose to be assessed against either edition. After that, all practices are assessed against the 6th. Our advice: survey under the 5th if you are due within twelve months, and build 6th edition readiness steadily.
From implementing the draft at our own practices and from conversations inside the accreditation and PHN network, we expect assessment to focus on continuity of evidence across the three years — continuous logs, annual quality improvement, training records with dates — and on practices that only care about accreditation once every three years. Practices that are not yet accredited can join the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program with accreditation requirements waived if they join by 31 December 2026. Accreditation is still required in the ordinary course; the waiver is a joining concession. The program explained →
